About SAFA
In the initial investment of alpaca farming virtually 90% of all farms for the first 3 years of their startup are considered small farms. According to the AOBA/ARI statistics, a mid-sized farm has between 15 and 60 alpacas. Only 33% of all the alpaca farms are considered mid-sized. If your initial purchase is under 14 alpacas, you will be a small farm. You will face all the challenges of small farm startup and development. Small alpaca farmers across the United States are coming together to maximize marketing, herdsires, sales and service sharing. One of those cooperative efforts is the Small Alpaca Farms of America (SAFA).
New and not so new breeders should seriously consider buying their first alpacas from small farms. Small farms offer good old-fashioned personal service and attention. Due to low overhead costs and employee expenses, small farms are also able to offer great animals at the best possible prices.
We have also found that many alpacas raised on small farms are friendlier and more socialized to human contact. This is because our small numbers of animals allow us to have daily physical contact and more personal relationships with our alpacas! If you are truly seeking a wonderful new lifestyle with this livestock investment, your chances of achieving that goal are best when you purchase from a small farm!
Small Alpaca Farms of America has a co-operative total of animals available for you to choose from. We have quality alpacas from around the country to meet your breeding goals. Many of our farms have show champions or show-quality animals with well-chosen foundation animals that will help you develop a sound herd from the very start of your alpaca farming venture. Some of our SAFA farms offer free breed backs, creative financing, and excellent pricing on quality alpacas. Moreover, SAFA farms offer discounted breeding fees, opportunities to share advertising expenses, animal transportation costs, and countless other benefits and opportunities to their fellow SAFA members.
If you are a small farm, and quality alpacas and quality service is important to you, SAFA is the answer. Our organization is committed to the development and the success of our small alpaca farm members. SAFA farm members provide service and the "personal interest" necessary for your success. WE SUCCEED BECAUSE YOU SUCCEED! Each member of SAFA is committed to assist in your business development, both before and after the sale. When you purchase an animal or service from a SAFA farm you automatically receive the benefits of a collaborative knowledge base and herd support that many of the large farms are not willing or able to give.
Buying from a SAFA member, opens the door for your quick and successful involvement in the alpaca industry. SAFA members come from diverse backgrounds and experience levels. They are a multitude of "like-minded owners". Our interest is in your success. So the question remains: Why would a small farmer who may require so much service and support - before, during and after the sale - purchase from anyone but a small farm?
If you are looking for a particular animal, have a breeding question or a herd health question, one of our SAFA members will be there to help. In return, if you have ideas or skills you would like to share, you can help others, by joining our organzation, The Small Alpaca Farms of America.
We look forward to helping you start raising and breeding these wonderful animals. Become a part of a co-operative and collective small alpaca farm community. SAFA members are neighbors, sharing and caring for one another's success.
